circle12Our Curriculum

Great learning opens doors and expands horizons. A love of learning is the greatest gift a school can bestow. We want our children to catch a Learning Habit that will last them for a lifetime!

We work hard to make each day memorable and invite parents to take part in our wonderful ‘exit points’ which are a grand celebration of all the children’s learning at the end of a unit of study.

Our FIT Curriculum

We are really proud of our HORDLE FIT CURRICULUM which is all about keeping our minds and bodies fit, healthy and energised through our 7 WORKOUTS getting us ready for life as a global citizen of the future.

Learning Beyond the School Day

Learning will be stronger if it happens in partnership with the home and we are grateful to our wonderful parents who support their children with a range of homework tasks each week.

We believe that learning shouldn’t stop at 3.30pm and are exceptionally proud of the wide range of learning opportunities offered to our pupils beyond the school day. For more information on our Hordle Hub click here.

Phonics at Hordle CE (VA) Primary School

We initially start introducing children to the concepts of listening to and breaking down sounds using the ‘Letters and Sounds’ programme. This is mainly used in our nursery class. However, throughout the Foundation Stage 1 &2 we supplement this with the multi – sensory approach of Jolly Phonics which is enormously successful in the early years.

As children progress further in phonics into more complex phonemes and using phonics for writing, we use the highly structured Read, Write Inc, programme which takes the children through the progression in Key Stage 1 and beyond as necessary.
