Mrs Slattery's Retirement
It is with great sadness that we share the time has come for the wonderful Mrs Slattery, our School Projects Manager, to retire.
Sheila has been with the school for 25 years and for the vast majority of those was the School Business Manager, playing a significant role in so many of the chapters of Hordle CE Primary School.
She has helped us to manage school extension work, played a pivotal role in the introduction of the school nursery, fought for numerous bids and grants and has been an absolute champion for high standards both within the classroom and in terms of all aspects of building and maintenance work. She recently spear-headed our full toilet refurbishment project, which has had a huge impact on the entire school.
On behalf of the whole team, we wish the wonderful Mrs Slattery a very well-deserved retirement. You will be so very missed by all of the team.

Our School Nurses will be returning this year, on Thursday 3rd October, to provide children with their annual nasal flu vaccination. High vaccination rates are key to preventing the spread of infectious diseases and therefore, we encourage all parents to consent to the vaccination at school or if preferred or necessary due to other medical conditions, to book via your doctors surgery.
Please may we ask parents to consent (or decline) via the link below:
School Code: SH116486
Last year's uptake rate across Hampshire was 69% for primary age children and for Team Hordle, we achieved an uptake of 70.21% (the target set by NHS England is 75%).
Thank you for helping us promote a healthy environment in our school, as well as the wider community.
***
Parents who don’t want their child to have the nasal spray because of the very small amounts of porcine gelatine (used as a stabiliser) can discuss the option of an injected vaccine with the school aged immunisation service. Please find their details via the link above.

What to do if my child is absent
Please can we remind parents/guardians of our schools absence procedures:
1. Contact us as soon as possible (and before 9.30am at the latest) on the first day of absence; telephone (via the schools absence line), email adminoffice@hordle.hants.sch.uk or visit the school office
2. Advise us on the nature of your child’s absence.
Please note that in the event of sickness and/or diarrhoea, the exclusion period is 48 hours since the last bout of illness.
3. Update the school daily on subsequent days absence, unless advised otherwise.
If your child is absent and we have not heard from you by 9.30am at the latest, we will telephone you and any other contacts that have been provided to us to confirm your child’s whereabouts. This is because we have a safeguarding duty to ensure your child’s safety as well as their regular school attendance.
A child not attending school is considered a safeguarding matter. This is why information about the cause of any absence is always required.
Please note, if no reason for absence is received before 12pm it is a safeguarding requirement for us to visit the family home to ascertain your child’s well being. Please help us to ensure the safeguarding of all children in our care.

School Meal Census - Wednesday 2nd October
The school is allocated funding annually to cover the costs of UIFSM (Universal Infant Free School Meals) and the amount of funding received by the school is based on a head count of Infant children having a free lunch, on specific days, throughout the year.
The first census date this year is Wednesday 2nd October and we would like to encourage as many children in YR – Y2 to have a school lunch on that day.
If you have a child in YR to Y2, please help the school maximise this funding by signing your child up for a lunch.
Menu for Wednesday 2nd October
Green - Handmade Margherita Pizza (V)
Blue – Bubble Salmon with Crinkle Cut Wedges
Pudding - Banana Cake

Measles Vaccination
As you may be aware, in a bid to prevent a rise in measles cases similar to that seen in October 2023 with children returning to school, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an urgent call to parents to ensure their children catch up on missed vaccinations before they head to the classroom, as UKHSA scales up the Childhood Immunisation Marketing Campaign across England amid fears of a further surge in measles cases as the new term begins.
The campaign shares the urgent message that “if children aren’t vaccinated, they’re not protected”.
Please can we remind all parents to ensure that their children's vaccinations are up to date, helping to protect them and others.
Thank you.
